Childbirth is a normal, natural process, not a medical event. By attending a
6-week series of comprehensive, independent childbirth classes, you will
learn the importance of:
-
staying as healthy as possible, through eating a well-balanced diet with
plenty of protein, exercising regularly, and avoiding anything which may be
harmful to the mother and growing baby.
-
understanding the physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional aspects
of the birth process so that you can work with your body to give birth.
-
learning how relaxation and slow abdominal breathing will minimize any pain
during labor and maximize the effectiveness of the miraculous uterine
muscle.
-
choosing a caregiver who is supportive of your birth preferences and
developing a birth plan to promote cooperation and trust between you and
your caregivers.
-
having a caring person with you during labor to provide physical,
emotional and informational support.
-
working with your caregiver to protect the health of the mother and baby
throughout pregnancy and during labor, while minimizing the need for
unnecessary medical interventions and medications.
To choose the classes that are right for you, research the options that are
available, talk to the childbirth instructor who will be teaching the class,
and consider how her philosophies match with your own
personal goals for this birth!
